Fenomenologia dell’in-memorare: teoria e pratiche della sociologia dell’esperienza

Abstract

Abstract: The “sociology of experience” is a significant concept in Italian sociology explored through Paolo Jedlowski’s work on “experienced temporality”. This refers to the psychological and cultural reinterpretation of individuals’ and groups’ past experiences, which contributes to the construction of self-identity and social action. This essay explores how the “articulation between temporalities” – the reworking of the past that opens up discourses on a desired future that nurtures desiring social action – is related to the work of many authors, including Walter Benjamin and Ernst Bloch. The purpose of the essay is not only to analyse concepts such as “in-memorization”, “in-futuration” and “temporality” – which refer to the links between memory and hope –, but also to demonstrate how in-memorization and in-futuration are a specific type of “self-reflexive sociological practice”. Jedlowski’s work is characterised by the use of “autoethnographic notebooks” as the empirical basis for his theorising on the experience of time.
