Abstract

Abstract: Enzo Paci has played a crucial role in the spread of the phenomenological thought in Italy, developing its themes in a constant dialogue with other fields of knowledge. The present article intends to explore the comparison that the Italian philosopher has initiated with the social sciences, with the aim of investigating affinities and divergences that characterize different but complementary ways of questioning the intersubjective dimension. To this purpose, the text will proceed by reconstructing, first, the points of Paci’s thought in which such a comparison is, more or less explicitly, articulated. Then the links that connect the phenomenological perspectives to the sociological ones will be deepened through the comparison of Paci’s positions with Alfred Schütz’s phenomenologically oriented sociology. This will open the field to a reflection on the theme of empathy which, being located at the crossroads of sociology and phenomenology, allows us to pursue the path of the interdisciplinary dialogue traced by Paci.

Keywords: Enzo Paci; phenomenological sociology; empathy.
